Leg Press
The Leg Press is a popular lower-body strength training exercise that targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteal muscles.
How it Works
You sit in a leg press machine with your back supported against a padded seat and your feet placed on a large platform. By extending your legs, you push the platform away from you, then slowly return it to the starting position.
Muscles Worked
-
Primary: Quadriceps (front thighs)
-
Secondary: Hamstrings (back thighs) and Glutes (buttocks)
-
Stabilizers: Calves and hip muscles help maintain control
Benefits
-
Builds leg strength and muscle mass
-
Allows controlled heavy lifting without stressing the lower back as much as squats
-
Can be adjusted for different fitness levels
-
Good for rehabilitation and isolation training
Form Tips
-
Foot Position:
-
High on platform → more glutes/hamstrings
-
Low on platform → more quadriceps
-
Wide stance → inner thighs
-
Narrow stance → outer quads

Control the Movement: Avoid letting the weight slam down; use slow and steady motion.
-
Knee Safety: Don’t fully lock out your knees at the top. Keep a slight bend.
-
Range of Motion: Lower until your knees are about 90° or slightly more, but don’t force an extreme bend.
