Calf Raises on the Leg Press

Calf Raises on the Leg Press

    Description:
Calf raises on a leg press machine target the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the calves. Instead of pressing the weight away with your legs, you keep your knees straight and push the platform away by extending only your ankles.

    How to Perform:

    1. Setup:

      • Sit in the leg press machine with your feet shoulder-width apart on the lower edge of the platform.

      • Position the balls of your feet on the platform with your heels hanging off.

      • Keep your knees slightly bent (not locked) to avoid joint strain.

    2. Movement:

      • Push the platform away by extending your ankles (pointing your toes forward).

      • Pause at the top for a brief contraction.

      • Slowly lower your heels back down for a deep stretch in the calves.

    3. Breathing:

      • Exhale as you push through the balls of your feet.

      • Inhale as you return to the starting position.

    Tips:

    • Avoid bouncing — use a slow, controlled motion.

    • Use a weight that allows full range of motion.

    • Keep the tension on your calves, not your quads.
